Invading SoCal

Ventura! And no, I didn’t take this…
Back from a long weekend down south. Michael was moving from his temporary digs in Ojai to the permanent pad in Ventura, so being the amazingly good friend I am, I tossed the wife in the car, dropped the mutt off at the kennel (thankfully Professor Mike was able to snag him the day after), and drove 6 hours south to help him move. Of course, the lure of hanging out with a good friend for a long weekend, plus getting to see more of California kind of added to the temptation. Couple of things I learned:
- Never, ever, ever, EVER go out the night before you’re set to move and spend eight (count ‘em, EIGHT!) hours getting absolutely ratarsed.
- Wait until AFTER you move to order a 200lb entertainment center. Even if you have a coupon!
- Sometimes, being Irish is both a blessing and a curse.
- Certain people will play tonsil hockey with absolutely ANYTHING after enough to drink, and slight encouragement from me.
- Stone Vertical Epic is friggin’ tasty beer.
- A total of 13 hours in the car with my wife feels like longer.
- Southern California truly has the best fish tacos. Which makes the current score: Southern California 1, Northern California 234,454.
Yep, lots of drinking, lots of eating, and some heavy lifting. But no photos, since even though I reminded someone to take the brand new camera she got for Christmas, she decided that charging the battery isn’t a good idea.
But like I said, got to hang out with one of my favourite peeps (who’s one of the few people who actually read this feckin’ thing – whattup, Michael!!) We also got to introduce him to the… er, other person we know in Southern California, Jenny, so hopefully those two will be able to hang out, get to know each other, etc. etc.
In other news, I got the recessed lights installed and working in the living room – despite living in a house with absolutely batshit crazy wiring and odd construction methods (who the f**k puts THREE studs next to each other in a non-load-bearing wall?!!?)
Hooray for me!
