A little over a week into the Barack Obama presidency has seen a lot of stuff we’re not used to – work. But amidst the closing of Guantanamo, the reintroduction of stem cell research, attention to climate change, action on the economy with the creation of jobs and infrastructure (as opposed to just tax cuts, so the Republicans obviously hate it) I have to admit, for sheer comedic value, I kinda miss the old guy. Step forth David Letterman… (Thanks to JB for the link!)
Okay, as mentioned, I needed a root canal last week. I was munching on one of those crackers with seeds on it, and one of the molars broke. Nice! Fair enough, it’s been a while since I’ve been to the dentist, so I kinda brought this on myself. But jebus if it isn’t getting old. I wait years and years to go, and I’ve been FOUR TIMES in the past week. And I’m apparently not even halfway done.
So I go to a dentist. They do the xrays and initial exam, then tell me I need a root canal. Off I go. Was then meant to report back to the dentist yesterday for a crown and a cleaning.
Thankfully, I’m not as bad as this poor bastard…
Of course yesterday, the dentist decides to tell me that I now need periodontal surgery on that same tooth. And the healing time on that is about six weeks, and it REALLY needs to be done before they can put in a permanent crown. Oh, and it looks like you’re going to need two sessions of below the gum cleaning, as well as a few fillings.
Ka-ching!
Wish this could have happened a month ago – when I could have had access to last year’s insurance too, since the crown and root canal have maxed me out already. Which means… everything from here on in is out of pocket.
Grrrreat.
So the moral of the story, kids? Go see your dentist, and avoid $5,000+ bills and arseloads of painful procedures…
Not too much going on of late though. Homeownership is still a learning curve for us, and a money pit to boot. Seems every week there’s something that comes up that needs attention – and, by default, money. But hey, the house is coming along.
Dudek continues to make our lives interesting. He’s decided that he needs to bark and growl at every minute sound outside, which is always fun when you’re trying to relax after a long day. He’s loving doggie daycare though, where he gets dumped twice a week so I can get some work done.
Tracee’s Honda is no more – we traded it in just before Christmas for one of these:
We’ve needed something with 4WD for a while, and when I was driving home and saw a Honda just like hers, broken down on 101 blocking traffic, I took it as a sign, and we traded it in while the going was good. It’s a groovy wee car, and had a baptism of fire within a couple of days when we went up to the cabin for Christmas. Arnold got completely dumped on, the roads were a mess, but the new Subie handled ‘em like a champ. I think the only person who enjoyed the epic powder more than JB was Dudek…
I think that’s about all the shennanigans that’s gone on, other than an enjoyable root canal for me the other day – and the giddy enjoyment of finally getting rid of Dubya next week!
