The Mersey Derby

Published by ubermick under Football

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of Arsenal and the tyranny of United. Blessed is he, who in the name of Shankly and Paisley, shepherds the Kop through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is EL NIÑO when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I love this pic – sums up the way poor Everton fans must be feeling these days. Embarrassed in the Carling Cup, languishing in the league, their owner desperate to sell, no money available, and now a solid lesson by the good half of Liverpool this weekend, where the 2-0 scoreline REALLY didn’t reflect the one sidedness of the game. (If Babel started on the right instead of Kuyt, it likely would have been 4 or 5.)

Back from the wilderness

Published by ubermick under Travels

Okay, so it’s hardly wilderness. But Patrick’s Point State Park up near the Oregon border is really removed and rather amazing to boot – so three days up there in a tent with Tracee, Professor Mike, and Dudek was a much needed weekend of R&R. I could wax philosophical, but I’ll just let the pics speak for themselves…

Agate Beach. No dogs allowed. Pfft! Patricks Point itself. Dead seal on the beach. Most of the decomposition work courtesy of flies. (Ew.) Patricks Point from up near our campground. Base of a coastal redwood in Lady Byrd Johnson Grove. Thats about 15 feet wide, folks. Same tree. Thats a giant pine on the right. Dogga-dog. Professor Mike sunning himself at Lagoon Beach. Dudek tearing after his ball.

Funnily enough, we took no pictures of the campsite. Didn’t miss much, there was just two tents, a picnic table, and empty bottles of beer and wine all over the place. (Hangovers are always the best when you wake up on the cold ground in your sleeping bag, having gotten maybe two hours of sleep.)

Makes us wonder why we don’t get out and camp more…

Tooling around

Published by ubermick under Dog, General

So the past few weeks have seen me busy with young pup (who has today discovered how to get on the bed) and work. NASFAA’s quiet-ish since the Conference, but I do have a couple of freelance gigs on the back burner as well. But there’s always a little bit of free time, and with a house, that free time manifested itself into… Power tools.

John, our fab realtor, presented us with a nice Home Depot gift certificate for our housewarming present – with the emphasis on “I know Tracee got all the china, vases, candlesticks, pictureframes, and crap she wanted for your wedding, so a year on, go get yourself something nice.” (If you’ve been wondering what to get us for a wedding gift, take heed! And… WTF is wrong with you, the wedding was a year and a half ago!!)

Nice.

So armed with a new mitre saw, circular saw, and orbital sander, I immediately put them to work to create… the Workbench!!

Behold! Im married and have wood!!!

See it and despair!! View it’s woody goodness! Hand crafted by yours truly from 2×4s and a sheet of 1″ ply, it sits there with it’s golden oak stain and five (count ‘em, FIVE!) coats of Diamond polyurethane! And next to it is my beer fridge. (Note the strategically placed bottle opener…) And yeah, when I was done, I built a pegboard, and a bike rack, and even a little helmet and Camelbak holder… that’s how I roll.

This is the garage. This is my house.

I am man!! Wuaaaaaaaaaaaah!
