A summary of all things bad
Okay. I haven’t ridden off road in months. Several months. I haven’t posted on here in a while either. But to keep both my regular readers in the know, here’s what’s been going on…
Soccer. It has priority over riding. I play Saturdays, and a couple of times during the week. I can’t make weeknight rides due to scheduling conflicts (or the earlier soccer games either). And damnit, I want Sundays to myself.
Wedding crap. I never knew how much of a drag and a time hog this can be. Despite me repeatedly telling Tracee that I want nothing to do with it, I still get bogged down in decisions, conversations, and logistics.
My knee. And herein lies the rub. Up until the beginning of October I was at least riding to work. But towards the end of a match over two months ago, I was running at full pelt back to my own goal, when I felt something in my knee go BOINK! Funnily enough, it felt okay, so I kept playing, but next morning I was in agony. A trip to the doc pointed out a ruptured tendon, and the order came down to stay off it for six weeks. Since I basically couldn’t flex my knee, I was told I should avoid riding for that time. Towards the end of the sixth week, the day after my birthday, I went for a light jog to test it out. 10 minutes in… BOINK! Back to square one, and now my doc has basically told me that I’m done with soccer, unless I drop 30lbs. (It’s not that I’m THAT overweight – more a case of me having the knees of an 80 year old, and if I’m going to play on them, I have to do it with zero excess weight.)
So there you have it. That’s honestly about it. I do expect to be on my bike a lot more in the new year, once the knee is stable, since I won’t be able to play. In the meantime, I’ve got wedding crap and work to do, and we’re back off to California in less than two weeks.
Merry Christmas!
